Who? Families with babies birth-12 months.
Becoming a parent is one of the biggest leaps we take as adults.
No matter how prepared we feel before baby comes, it’s always a big shock. Even with multiple degrees in child development and years of experience with children of different ages, it was still a steep learning curve for me. I realised that many parents are in the same boat and always looking for ways of learning as parents to best support the newest, most important person in their life.
This isn’t your typical playgroup – it’s where adult education meets playgroup. I want to support more families to learn and understand the amazing benefits of sign language for pre-verbal babies in supporting their language, communication, wellbeing and safety, as well as their cognitive and physical development.
A FREE introduction to baby sign language
- 12 Auslan signs to support language and connection
- Expert facilitator sharing decades of child development knowledge
- Handouts to take home to help you get started
This exciting new playgroup will walk you through the benefits of baby sign language in a safe and friendly space, with activities for your little one and plenty of time to chat and meeting new families. Tea and coffee also provided.
Meet Henri
Henri’s parents joined a playgroup course in 2024 when Henri was just 4 months old. Both parents, without any prior Auslan training, attended and committed to signing every day. At 6 months old, Henri started signing MILK with his Dad to tell him he wanted to go back to Mum. By 10 months old, Henri had a dozen signs, including signs such as STRAWBERRY, BIRD and HOT. He was able to share his experience with his parents, ask for specific foods he wanted and keep safe from dangerous objects (hot cups of tea and the oven) because he was excelling in his language and communication.
Playgroup Details
This course is open to families with babies birth to 12 months old.
Baby Sign courses are inclusive spaces welcoming all families.
To ensure safety and comfort of the little babies that attend, we ask that you find care for older siblings. It’s also a great chance for you to dedicate time to your newest addition.
Both parents are welcome to attend.
Please note: this is not an Auslan course. Yes, the signs presented are Auslan (Australian Sign Language) signs, however the purpose of this course is to support your child’s speech and overall language development, not leave you fluent in Auslan. If that is your goal, I am happy to recommend some other organisations that can help you achieve your goals!
